Ananda Buddha Vihara

Ananda Buddha Vihara, a Buddhist complex with a Buddhist shrine and meditation halls stationed at Mahindra hills – Secunderabad, about 5 kilometers north to the Hussain Sagar. This complex integrates a temple, library and a cultural building. This propagates the teachings of Lord Buddha and a famous Buddhist center in Hyderabad.

The temple is the last building at the edge of a hillock, adjacent to Mata Amritanandmayi’s ashramam. To reach the main hall which is vast and has a high arched ceiling, one has to climb a steep flight stairs. The hall contains a large golden Buddha statue. And the atmosphere gives the feeling of peace and a meditative mood. There is a mini garden outside the hall with a beautiful idol of Lord Buddha under the tree. The idol depicts the scene of attending the Nirvana.

The Vihara was inaugurated by 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso in 2002.With proposed museum hall it is a varied place to gain knowledge about Buddhism and the teachings of Lord Buddha. One can receive programs and have access to the library by paying Rs.365/- per year. If interested, there are monks to help in understanding Buddhism to its extremes.

It also has a lotus pool and an artificial water fall. One can even have a glance of the little monks in the premises. It also offers some of the beautiful views of the city.
The Vihara was started in 1974 and has been a registered society, managed by local traditional Buddhists since 1996. They aimed to spread the Buddhist values and revive their culture, which was prominent in A.P almost a century ago. On April 6th 2003, his holiness the Dalai Lama dedicated the statue of Lord Buddha in a position known as the Dhamma Desana Mudra. Anand Buddha Vihara is considered as heart of the Buddhist activities that takes place in the twin cities and also in other parts of the state.

Entry fee: No entry fee.
If interested of Buddhism, its training is open from 6AM to 11Am and then 4PM to 9PM (all days).
Open on all days and better to visit in early mornings and evenings.
