Himayat Sagar Lake is one of the artificial lakes of Hyderabad. It was constructed by the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad in the year 1927 and named the lake as Himayat sagar on the name of his youngest son; it is a tributary of Musi River and flows in parallel to Osman Sagar Lake. It stores water up to 3.0 TMC and supplies drinking water to the people of Hyderabad in the past.
Himayat sagar lake was built based on the reason that, Hyderabad affected by floods in the year 1908 because of heavy rainfall that occurred during monsoon season. This lake is filled based on the rain falls that happens during the year. It also maintains groundwater levels in surrounding areas of lake.
Himayat Sagar Lake has become the major tourist attraction of Hyderabad because of its crisp clean air, sparkling water and lush vegetation. It gives a thrilling experience just by driving on the road of the lake. It has also become the picnic spot for the people of Hyderabad.
Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) has arranged guest-houses for the people who are interested to have a stay in this place.
