About the Club

Hyderabad Race Club (HRC) is a racing association and has its race track located at Malkapet in Hyderabad. The tradition of racing has prevailed in Telangana since a long time. In the year 1868, Nizam Asaf Jah VI initiated horse racing at Moula Ali in the city of Hyderabad. At that time, these races were called Deccan races. In 1886, the racing course was relocated to Malakpet as the Nizam Asaf Jah VI wanted the race course near to his palace. It is said that the race conducted here was considered the best race all over India. The whole event was systematically conducted by the resident Englishmen. After sometime, the racing administration was handed over to the Royal Calcutta Turf Club. Later, a regular race course was established on the land acquired by the cantonment of Secunderabad.

Highly inspired by the strong state of affairs of the city and the construction of South India Turf Club, the Nizam Asaf Jah VII, as a gesture sold 126 acres of land at nominal price to the HRC in the year 1956. The racing at the present Malakpet course started in 1968 on a track which was half a kilometre long. In addition to this track, a winter track was also added to this race course in 1976 on which Hyderabad Winter Races were conducted.

HRC is the only turf authority of India that owns the entire racecourse premises including tracks, stands, professional quarters, houses, race course complex and parking lot. A special service called as Yeomen service was given by the HRC to its members. HRC is doing great job and leaving no stone unturned to promote this royal sport in our country. HRC turned to an independent body in 1977. In 1978, they conducted the invitational raced under their supervision and rules. Sponsorship was bought to Indian Racing by HRC only and due to this, Invitation Cup became the most prominent race in the country. Racings are conducted here from July to March.

If you want the membership of the race club, you should be addressed to the secretary of the club and should contain the necessary documents prescribed by the Board for the related purpose. Then, you have to submit an application to the head of HRC sanctioned by the two club members who possess the voting rights in the club.
