Mir Alam Tank

Mir Alam Tank served the drinking water for the people of Hyderabad, before 125 years when Osman sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs were not built. It is about 16 kilometres away from the International Airport in Hyderabad and just a side to Nehru Zoological Park and it is on the way of Hyderabad and Bangalore Highway.

Mir Alam the prime minister of Hyderabad in the time of Nizam three laid the foundation for the tank on July 20, 1804 and was completed two years later in 1806 on June 8. French engineers involved in the construction of the tank. The work was excellent and really appreciated with a mile long bund is formed with 21 semi-circular arches and also the ex-general of Nizam army Raymond also participated in planning of the tank. People say that the water in this tank is sweet and pure and used to carry water with them in containers when they go out of Hyderabad. Some visitors used to visit this place only for tasting the water during the olden days.

This offers a wonderful view for the people who visit here during monsoon season and also the Andhra Pradesh Tourism has given the facility of boating in this lake for common man as well as shootings. Speedboats are also available in this lake which has its entry from the zoo park. People who come to this lake have an added advantage of watching Zoo Park as well as the view of lake. It has become the one of the tourist attractions of Hyderabad.
